The HAQ was developed as a comprehensive measure of outcome in patients with a wide variety of rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, scleroderma, ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, and psoriatic arthritis.  It has also been applied to patients with HIV/AIDS and in studies of normal aging. The HAQ should be considered a generic rather than a disease-specific instrument. The HAQ is a self reported questionnaire that evaluates functional capability to perform various activities of daily during the past week using a 4-level Likert scale. The Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQc) has been adapted from the Health Assessment Questionnaire and was developed to evaluate the disability, discomfort and pain of a child with any illness by assessing the child’s functional ability over the past week. The HAQc is a parent administered questionnaire and has been used extensively in children with rheumatoid arthritis. The developer has shown that parents are reliable proxy-reporters for their child’s functional status. The source language is English for USA.

The WOMAC® Index is a self-administered questionnaire that consists of 24 questions.  It assesses the three dimensions of pain, disability and joint stiffness for patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee. The latest version of the instrument (WOMAC® 3.1) is available in many countries in more than 80 alternate language forms. It is also available in 5-point Likert, 100 mm Visual Analogue (VA) and 11-point Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) formats.

The AUSCAN© Index is a self-administered questionnaire that consists of 15 questions. The three dimensions of pain, disability and joint stiffness are evaluated for patients with osteoarthritis of the hand. The AUSCAN© is available for 28 countries in more than 30 alternate language forms. It is also available in 5-point Likert, 100 mm Visual Analogue (VA) and 11-point Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) formats.
